Job Details

Reporting to the Director, Safety Execution, this position plays a critical role in leading safety efforts across Trimac’s National Tank Services (NTS) wash rack and shop operations.

 

We are seeking a hands-on and collaborative Manager, Safety (NTS) to oversee safety performance, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a strong safety culture across assigned facilities. This role partners closely with the Director, Investigation & Learning, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Operations and Shop Managers, and customers to ensure safety programs are aligned, effective, and responsive to operational needs.

 

This role will focus on managing safety audits, training, and corrective actions, while executing recommendations from the Investigation & Learning team. The Manager will promote a proactive risk assessment mindset and drive continuous improvement in safety outcomes across assigned NTS facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead & deploy Specialists: Direct two NTS Safety Specialists (Eastern Canada and Houston, Texas); set weekly priorities; ensure coverage aligned to technician density and risk.
  • Risk ranking: Build and maintain a risk ranking for all locations (clear criteria); use it to guide audits, training, and corrective actions.
  • Execute learnings: Implement recommendations from Investigation & Learning; verify effectiveness and prevent repeat issues.
  • Audits & compliance: Conduct/oversee facility audits, equipment/permit reviews, and contractor controls; ensure documentation is complete and current.
  • Training & culture: Schedule/track critical training, toolbox talks, and drills; promote a practical, do‑the‑work mindset.
  • Customer engagement & product handling QC: Support customer audits/reviews; ensure health/safety controls are followed.
  • Reporting & dashboards: Publish monthly status (JTOs, training completion, audit findings).
  • This position will be based in Edmonton, Alberta supporting Edmonton and Calgary, with occasional regional travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Transportation Safety, Operations, Engineering, or related field. 
  • Minimum 5 - 7 years of progressive safety leadership experience, with a strong focus on industrial and shop environments such as maintenance facilities, terminals, and energy or chemical service operations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in safety audits, training delivery, and safety management, with strong knowledge of regulatory requirements for shop and industrial environments such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, hot work permitting, personal protective equipment (PPE), and respiratory protection.
  • Experienced in incident follow-up and basic root cause analysis, with experience collaborating with Certified Industrial Hygienists (CIH) on exposure assessments and control strategies.
  • Professional safety certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) is an asset.
  • Competence in respiratory fit-testing procedures and protocols is an asset.
  • Forklift trainer certification or equivalent experience in equipment safety training is an asset.
  • Experience in product-handling operations, particularly within industrial or chemical service environments.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY METRICS

  • 100% technician interaction in responsible area (measured by JTOs, training, etc.).
  • Annual facility audit completed at each supported location.
  • Critical training completion (tracked & reported).
  • ≥90% corrective‑action completion for inspections, audits, and investigations.
