Job Details

The Environmental Compliance Support Summer Student will assist Trimac’s Environmental team in maintaining and enhancing compliance practices across Canadian facilities. This role is designed to provide hands-on exposure to environmental management systems, regulatory compliance, and operational best practices while contributing to meaningful projects that support Trimac’s environmental objectives.

 

This opportunity is ideal for a student pursuing post-secondary education in Environmental Studies, Science, Engineering, or a related field with an environmental focus, who is

seeking practical experience in a fast-paced, compliance-focused environment.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Support Canada-wide environmental compliance by reviewing, updating, and validating Mapistry EHS data across all Canadian facilities, including contacts, permits, BMPs, waste areas, stormwater pathways, spill kits, and inspection frequencies.
  • Assist in developing or updating site-specific environmental compliance calendars and task management processes, ensuring inspection schedules, reminders, corrective action deadlines, and recurring regulatory obligations are accurately tracked and maintained.
  • Conduct informal environmental records reviews and site assessments (as access permits) to verify Mapistry entries, observe environmental conditions, confirm BMP locations, and document stormwater pathways.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidance materials for BMP inspections, outlining step-by-step requirements, Mapistry workflows, documentation expectations, and corrective action/escalation processes.
  • Create or update facility waste inventories and site maps, including waste classifications, approximate quantities, BMP locations, waste storage areas, stormwater flow diagrams, and spill response equipment, ensuring final versions are uploaded into Mapistry.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Environmental Studies, Science, Engineering, or a related field with an environmental focus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proactive, eager to learn, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.

Program Eligibility

  • Be enrolled in a post-secondary institution and available from May to August.
  • Returning to school following the summer term.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada (Citizen, PR, or valid work permit).
