Shop Lead Hand

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Foreman on shift and deputizing in his/her absence, this position will be accountable for the smooth flow of work throughout the facility, leading to more efficient use of personnel and capacity. You will be an effective communicator, at ease discussing repairs with our customers and be wholly committed to providing an exceptional customer experience.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

This position is accountable for:
  • Having a thorough knowledge of shop policies and procedures and enforcing them when necessary.
  • Leading/Managing technician teams on shift, ensuring they are on task, on time and managing their RO segments efficiently and effectively.
  • Working with the Service Writer to build repair estimates to be delivered to customer for approval.
  • Ensuring repairs are approved before being completed to eliminate surprises to the customer.
  • Ensuring the customer is kept informed of progress on their unit repairs.
  • Perform random Quality Control (QC) assessments on unit repairs completed in the Shop and provide technician coaching where required.
  • Maintain knowledge of current industry practices and maintenance procedures.
  • Leading by example on all things safety and completing no fewer than 2 JTOs per day on shift.
  • Any other duties assigned by branch management for the good and benefit of the facility.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of tractor / trailer repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge for troubleshooting and repair of After treatment and Diesel engines.
  • Ability to assess repairs and estimate parts and labour costs to customer.
  • Computer skills adequate for the smooth and efficient use of the TMT Web suite of tools.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.

EDUCATION AND SPECIFIC TRAINING

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Postsecondary education (or equivalent) an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a maintenance services environment.

LEADERSHIP
  • Lead the shop team by example and be a positive influence on the shop floor.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a safe work environment and safe work practices.
  • On-going mentorship of junior technicians.

OTHER JOB DETAILS
  • May work above shoulder level with power and/or hand tools weighing 15lbs or less and in confined spaces.
  • Must meet physical requirements of the position and have mobility, vision, hearing, and sense of smell and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties performed.
  • May stand and walk on level and uneven surfaces, twist, bend, push, pull, crouch, climb stairs, bend and crawl, grasp, drag, lift, and carry items weighing 50lbs or less.
  • This role is Monday-Thursday, 9:00pm to 7:30am. Additional hours may be required to meet operational demands.
  • Pay rate: $40.72/h, including shift premium and lead hand premium.
