Summary:
Trimac Transportation headquartered in Calgary, AB, is looking for a Data Engineer intern to assist with Trimac's digital transformation initiatives. This position will assist a current student in securing experience in data pipeline tasks and house datasets in Trimac's enterprise ecosystem. The candidate will be learning public cloud computing and advanced analytics that enables the business to enhance the internal and external customer experience.
The Intern will be reporting to the Team Lead of Application Development.

The Intern will be reporting to the Team Lead of Application Development.
Responsibilities:
- Source data and build relationships from a variety of sources including Trimac data warehouse, operational applications, third-party applications thru API, and other industry sources.
- Maintaining and optimizing existing data models (SSAS, Data warehouse, SQL)
- Preparing solution documentation for reference purposes by other IT team members.
- Support the broader business intelligence team with data management, data governance, and data flow activities.
- Use available data to develop reports that provide management insight into operations, safety, or financial matters.
This allows exposure to:
- Legacy stack hosted on-premise analytic workloads
- Migrating to public cloud services
- Build on micro-service environments to enable the next generation of business success.
- Real-time analytics and data science workloads
- Microsoft Power BI
- SQL Server programming and development tools
- Data modeling using SSAS (SQL Server Analysis Services)
- Integration Services (SSIS)
- SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
- ETL and Data warehousing tools and architecture
- Data Analysis Expressions (DAX)
- PowerShell
- GitHub/Git
- A keen eye for detail with a high degree of accuracy
- Strong written and verbal skills at both the technical/business level.
- Self-starter with the ability to work effectively with internal business users and external service providers/vendors.
- Knowledge using APIs, AWS, Microsoft Azure, R, Python, Kubeflow
- Knowledge of ITIL Change Management/Quality Assurance practices.
- Ability to adapt between independent and team projects, in the role of member/leader/mentor.
- Delivering on agile projects.
- Ability to manage time among multiple assignments in a busy, fast-paced work environment.
Requirements/Education Studies:
- Current student in Computer Science or equivalent technical degree/diploma in information systems.
- No experience required.
- Prior Certifications preferred:
- Microsoft certifications in analyzing and visualizing data with Microsoft Power BI, data warehouse with SQL servers
- Certifications in AWS Data Analytics, familiarity with AWS glue, Data Lake, S3 object storage
- Python desired, NodeJS
