Payroll Specialist (Calgary, AB)

THE ROLE
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Specialist position is responsible for the processing of payroll functions and records for the organization. This position interacts with various departments and works with upper management to help achieve organizational growth and profitability goals.

  • Basic understanding of accounting principles
  • Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Good multi-tasking and time management skills
  • Able to efficiently handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, and effectively prioritize issues and needs while remaining detail-oriented in a fast-paced environment adapting to changing priorities.
  • Work well in a team environment, while managing own responsibilities.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of staff and senior management, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to analyze problems, propose solutions, and manage issues to resolution.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
  • Processing bi-weekly and weekly North American hourly payroll
  • Prepare and distribute reports to operations and answer employee & Manager inquiries
  • Set up and maintain various deductions e.g. garnishments, union dues, license, insurance, etc.
  • Process and maintain record employment as legislated by Service Canada
  • Validate and ensure the accuracy and integrity of payroll & HR data
  • Communicate with a variety of internal and external parties (government agencies, unions, field staff, etc)
  • Manage support HR information activities and verify documentation
  • Process employment verification and employment letters
  • Other duties as required
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must have a strong ability to focus on details, demonstrate accuracy and maintain high levels of confidentiality.
  • Strong time management skills for multi-tasking

REQUIREMENTS

  • 1 year or more of payroll experience
  • Minimum High School education
